Sacred Hymns Volume 3 - Behold the Great Redeemer (Music CD)

Pianist Garth Smith returns with his third full-length album, a collection of Christ-centered hymns and songs reimagined. Smith’s arrangements manifest his deep understanding of the original works. He has spent time with them; pondering, digging, discovering. The resulting close relationship with these songs shines through in his solo recordings, revealing nuances in the emotions they elicit, such as in his stunning take on the Christmas classic “O Holy Night.” With its delicate, music-box-like beginning that subtly matures into an ecstatic celebration of the Savior’s birth, this piece communicates both tenderness and grandeur. Garth’s rendition of “I Need Thee Every Hour” conveys sweetness and comfort with its gently arpeggiated chords, but also urgency and even desperation in its resounding third verse. Throughout the album, Smith invites you into his circle of friendship with these hymns, helping you rediscover the power and beauty of their messages and melodies.
