The Book of Daniel - Writings & Prophecies

When Jerusalem was conquered around 600 B.C., a young Daniel, kindred of the king, was carried away into Babylon. While he initially served as a junior member among the Chaldean wise men, circumstances would quickly lift him to become a governor in the land. In this role he became a guardian of the exiled Jews for over 70 years. As a prophet Jehovah showed him some of the most impressive and detailed visions recorded in all of scripture. A number of the prophecies give such precise predictions that skeptics such the ancient Porphyry (300 A.D.) objected that the writings could only be historical accounts recorded after the fact, not actual visions of the future. Daniel’s experiences involved panoramic views foretelling the history of major kingdoms that would rule in the world. He saw the restoration of the Jews to Jerusalem, the ministry and Atonement of the Savior, the second Jewish diaspora and the events of the latter-days. He saw the events leading to the Second Coming of the Lord. His vision of the Abomination of Desolation, referenced by the Savior (Matt. 24:15), portrayed the rise of latter-day anti-Christs and their campaign against the Kingdom of God and “Saints.” Through all these visions, he was given to understand the Lord’s hand in governing and guiding the destiny of the earthly kingdoms and His watchcare over the covenant people.One of the most important revelations comes from the angel, Gabriel who speaks of “the wise” (Dan. 12:3,10). The faithful among the people of God whose wisdom and preparation enable them to endure the critical final days leading to the Second Coming. G. Erik Brandt

Erik Brandt is a native of Brigham City, Utah. He is the second of eight children, to Edward J. and Carol Brandt, who, from the beginning, instilled a great love for the gospel and scripture study.

He served a mission in the Brazil, Sao Paulo North area, and later graduated from the Colleges of Engineering and Education at Brigham Young University. Erik has worked for over twenty years as a consultant and executive in the Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Healthcare Informatics disciplines, and he is currently the president of a Health Informatics software company.

Erik has served in numerous positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as Bishop and High Councilor, but gospel study and research remains a core interest for him. Throughout his travels to numerous countries over many years, Erik has focused on in-depth scripture study, resulting in a number of projects similar to this book. He is married to Shari and together they have nine children.
