As parents well know, raising children is a daunting task. But can you imagine being chosen to nurture, teach, and bring up the Messiah, the very Son of God?

I so admire the devotion of Mary and Joseph.

Although the details of their relationship are not given in scripture, the unity and love they must have shared is inspiring.

In this piece, I wanted to depict that love, that oneness of purpose, and the power that comes from it.

In our day, when the significance of marriage and family is so often belittled or even ridiculed, may we find power in the devotion of our families towards each other and towards our Heavenly Father.

Following his service as a missionary in the Philippines, David Bowman graduated with a degree in illustration from Brigham Young University. He has since served as a release-time seminary instructor as well as a counselor and speaker as numerous EFY conferences. David’s special love is making the scriptures come to life for young people, authoring and illustrating several books for kids and teens. He is also the artist of fine-art depictions of the Savior titled “Expressions of Christ.” David and his wife, Natalie, and their five children live in Arizona.
